Below is a link for a Power Point Presentation on the 3Rs program administered by COPIC Insurance of Colorado. 3Rs is an early offer, disclosure program that has dramatically reduced litigation and associated costs while preserving doctor-patient relationships. The Power Point was provided COPIC's Medical Director, Dr. Richert Quinn.
Couple of house cleaning items:
- COPIC is not a member of The Sorry Works! Coalition, although they are supportive of much of what we do and advocate.
- COPIC's 3Rs program differs slightly from true Sorry Works! in that it excludes plaintiffs attorneys and it is only for cases less than $30,000 in value. Patients and families represented by counsel and/or cases greater than $30,000 in value are litigated through traditional means.
Sorry Works! covers all cases, from minor incidents to wrongful deaths and patients and families are encouraged to retain legal counsel (if they wish). We believe the inclusion of plaintiff's counsel adds to the credibility of the program (from the patient and family perspective) and also assists with negotiations. Furthermore, we believe bigger cases (major injuries, wrongful deaths) provide the greatest opportunity for the savings (reduced litigation and associated costs) afforded by Sorry Works. However, in most instances, patients and families will only do Sorry Works! in big cases if they have their own counsel present.
