Sorry Works! Pilot Program Legislation

Illinois is the first state to pass a Sorry Works! pilot program (Illinois SB 475). Other states are considering similar measures and the coalition is advocating federal funding of Sorry Works! pilot programs.

The Sorry Works! pilot program allows hospitals, insurers, and doctors to try Sorry Works! risk free for a set time period. During the trial period, the state will cover any excessive liability costs above the hospital’s and insurer’s normal liability costs. The pilot programs will provide important data and learning experiences for all stakeholders interested in the Sorry Works! approach. The pilot programs will also provide important exposure and publicity for the Sorry Works! approach. However, pilot programs are NOT necessary for hospitals and doctors to try Sorry Works. Hospitals, doctors, and insurers can adopt Sorry Works! today and immediately begin experiencing the reduction in lawsuits, savings in defense litigation expenses, and reduction in medical errors. The pilot program legislation is simply a way to provide more exposure for Sorry Works! and to give hospitals an extra incentive to try Sorry Works!
